Most asked questions

  • 1. Cannot Insert a Modular ad into a Composite

    Symptoms:

    • Cannot insert a modular ad into a composite layout

    Solution:

There can be a few reasons why this might be happening:

The modular ad does not have the status "Customer Approved"

Before a modular ad is available to be placed in a composite template the ad must have the status of "Customer Approved"

    1. Click on "View my Ads"
    2. Find the modular ad in question, you should notice that it has the status of "Draft" or "In Progress"
    3. If the ad is ready to be palced into the composite, approve the ad by clicking on the green tick
    4. Try inserting the modular ad into the composite again

The modular ad does not fit in or was not designed for this composite

The composite layout will have a series of tabs at the top of the page for modular ads that can fit on this composite.  If the modular ads size is not one of these options then the ad will not be able to be placed onto this composite.

The ad was built on an old template that has since been modified

Modifying templates will cause all ads built on the "old" templates to be unavailable for further use.  If the ad is on an older version of the template you can identify this by being able to multistyle to what appears to be the same template, but is actually the newer version.  After multistyling to the new template the ad will be available for use in a composite once approved.

  • 2. How do I change an ad I have already approved?

In order to make a change to an ad that is already Customer Approved you will need to copy the ad.  To do this click on the home link on the MAX website.  This gives you the choice of three options.  Click "Option 2 - Create a new ad from a previous ad".

You can then search for the ad that you need to copy.  You can search on the job name, PN number, booking id or a date range to find the ad you are after.  It is recommended you search the PN number (found on the view my ads screen) to ensure you get the exact ad you are looking for.

Once you have entered the search information, click the Search button.  This will return images of ads that match the criteria.  Find the ad you want and click on the image.  You will then need to name the new ad.  It is recommended to name it the same as the ad you are coping from but ad V2 (version 2) onto the end of it.

Once you have named the new ad you can make the changes you need on the change text and change image screens and then preview your changes and approve the new ad.

  • 3. Pink Box appears when previewing an ad - Overset Error

    Symptoms:

    • Pink box appears in place of text when previewing an ad
    • An error message appears on the preview screen indicating overset characters

    Solution:

This is called an overset problem.  It appears when the amount of text in an area is greater than what that area can display.  It is accompanied by an error message which states there are characters overset.  This will occur when:

    • There is simply too much text - Try simplifing your text, abbreviate where possible, use your flashes and banners to fit extra features that couldn't fit in your body copy.
    • There is a very long word which takes up more space than a single line - Overset also occures when the word is longer than the horizontal space provided for it.  Try shortening any really long words.
    • There is a special character in your text (eg, a return or tab) - Return characters can take up an entire line of space, check your text to make sure you haven't got any extra returns at the end of your fields.  You can do this by seeing if you can click your cursor on the line below your text.

Please be aware that the Estimate maximum character count is not always 100% accurate.  Think of the ad is terms of how much space is available rather than how many characters should fit.  A "W" character takes up much more space than a "i" character but still increases the character count by 1, even though there is less space.

  • 4. Estimated Character count is wrong

    Symptoms:

    • User has entered less text than estimated maximum character count and either:
      • Pink box is appearing for that field, or
      • Text is being cropped

    Solution:

The estimated character count is only a guide.  You have a certain amount of space to enter text rather than a character limit and some characters take up more space than others, e.g. W takes more space than I, but both count as a single character.  The estimate is calculated using a mixture of text and can be fairly accurate.  If you are experiencing a problem and have less characters than the maximum character count, check the following:

    1. Does the text have a lot of capital letters in it?  Capital letters use more space than lowercase letters, if possible change CAPITAL words into lowercase words.
    2. Does the text have any hard returns in it?  Did you press the enter key while putting text in?  The enter key, even though it only counts as a single character, can push text out of its allocated space on the template and cause overset errors. Having a couple of extra enters at the end of a field is a common mistake that causes overset.
    3. Are there any long words that can be abbreviated?  Sometimes abbreviating a single long word can get your ad back up and under the limit again.

If you are still experiencing problems with the estimated maximum character count, call your account manager or 1300 APN MAX (1300 276 629)
